Gluten Free for people who aren't: Sausage and potatoes

You will need:
1 large kielbasa cut into half rounds
5 medium potatoes cubed
1/2 a large sweet onion cut to a size of your liking
optional- fresh parsley or spinach chopped.

start your potatoes steaming. (this should take 10-15 minutes, you want them to be firm)
Fire up your favorite frying pan.
Dump in the sausage, allow to brown, stir regularly to keep it from burning.
when that is browned, add your onion, and a little pepper.
Cook until onions are translucent. (careful not to burn them)
Deglaze pan with a 1/4 cup water, stir and cover with lid for a couple of minutes.
Add potatoes and parsley.
Liquid should be entirely gone.
Taste it... add salt and pepper as you like.
Serve on it's own or with bbq sauce/katsup/mustard... whatever you like.
I think it stands alone nicely.
Serve some fresh veggies and fruit on the side.

And if you'd like make a little vanilla lemonade.
be warned... it looks like urine, but the taste makes up for it.

Serves 3-4 Adults.

1 C lemon juice
1/2 C white sugar
5 C cold water
1 tsp vanilla extract.
double, triple or quadruple recipe as needed...

things your father lets you do that make your mother worried she will excrete multiple bodily fluids at once...

When Havah was born Cori was SOOO uptight.
When she was old enough and I would toss her up in the air, he would freak out a little.
He never did that...
But we're on number three, who happens to be a boy and things are different now.
Right here... Mom's cool, taking cute pictures of the boy climbing.
so cute.

"CHEESE!"

but here... here is where I begin to have to think about my breathing.
This shot is so close because I am holding my arm out under him, just in case...

AHHH!!! He is going to fall and DIE!
(remember he's not even 2 yet okay...)
whew... he made it...
Going the the park with the girls was never this stressful...

Sinkie Squinkie

Do you see that? That nasty pink thing hanging out of my bathroom sink?
This is an official forbidding- NO SQUINKIES (or Squinkie sized things) in my house!!
Yuck, and double Nasty!

On the plus side, my sinks drain fabulously now.

Power Tool Pumpkin Carving

Three pumpkins opened, cleaned and carved in under an hour?
And they just happen to be the cutest pumpkins the kids have ever designed...
L to R : Havah, Gid, Lilly
Here is to more fall magic!
(And the cleanest pumpkin carving EVER!)

Autumn Rain

I could listen to this all day.
The rain has passed now. The sky is blue and full of huge gray islands of clouds, and the wind is rushing around my house making the trees dance.
I am not getting anything done...
I just keep watching out the windows, knowing this golden beauty will be gone in a few short days.

Food:Reviewed....

Winners and losers tonight.
First runner up: Roast Chicken in Guyere Sauce.
Loser: Braised  Leek... totally inedible.

and First Place Grand Champion goes to...
THE APPLE PIE!

I am not sure why it took me so long to figure out pie making, because it is easy and delicious. Seems like now that I have it figured out all I have to do is decide what fruit I want in there and a delectable treat follows shortly.

Glad I decided to test out recipes this year. It would have been a major bummer if I had served those Leeks for Thanksgiving!

Fall food stuffs

Fall has come. The rain is back. Mornings are crisp, and all the leaves are on fire.
My kids are in the backyard on this perfect day, there is nothing better than fall...
Halloween will be finished in a few weeks (thank goodness!) and then we can move on to my favorite Holiday, Thanksgiving.

Yes it is true. Thanksgiving is my favorite, and I am anxiously anticipating it's arrival this year!

You are thinking, Kari why are you talking about Thanksgiving now?

Two reasons, First- I can't think of fall with out thinking of Thanksgiving.
Second- this week we are dry running Thanksgiving recipes!!
Braised leeks...Roast chicken...Apple pie...
Brussel sprouts and chicken sausage...
Last night we had Cauliflower Potato mash with greek yogurt and gravy.

Yummy....

now I must go finish cleaning out my garage, because I'm not allowed to start cooking pie until my chore is done.

HAPPY FALL!

Familee

L to R: Sadie, Lilly, Havah, Gideon (trying to steal letters) Me (why am I naked?)  and Cori singing, "Oh yeah Oh yeah I don't have to work today!"

This is what a "great day in our family" looks like... according to Havah...

Why does that mean I am naked?

Budding Ar-teest

Pages and pages.... I love to watch her sitting, wherever she can, drawing and drawing away... writing has opened up a whole new world of possibilities... (I just wish I could read what she writes...)
