Making the dreaded guess

Every childcare provider... parent, grandparent, babysitter, dreads the following face toddling up to them
Especially today...
when there was a little 'pebble' of something brown and slimy in his hand...
and then you guess... is it:

A) Chocolate.
B) Mud
C) The um... "Terrible Awful"

Got a guess?

Kitchen Floor/ weeks old reflections

I swept my floor today...
A little bit of reality, lest you read the following thoughts and think for some reason that my house is not what it is... (this is 24 hours.... how do they do it?)

Drafted : Jan 12, 2012
I am content... yikes, dangerous words to say right? Must mean something is coming, but I cannot tell a lie.
So I must stay, I am content.

I am a content person by nature I think. Glass is half full and all that...
But right now (right now being the last couple of week) my home is in order- my home being my children husband and self, rooms closest, garage, laundry is done... the play room has toys on the floor, but hello, it's a playroom.

Our life is not impressive. Nothing looks like it comes from the pages of magazines. I dont' spend my spare time sewing/crafting/saving the world. My children's teeth aren't always brushed, and sometimes we go to Arctic circle for dinner because I don't feel like cooking vegetable soup. But in the morning my children climb in bed with us and we whisper good morning to each other and share 'weird dreams' (Like Lilly's dream about a flying bath tub) and then they walk down stairs and I can hear them playing and laughing together. Except when I wait to long to get up and feed them breakfast and they fight, but even in their fighting, they are quick to apologize, after they've been fed of course...

I love this life. This little family life. When everyone is together and we're balanced and able to be ourselves.
I am soaking it up because I can feel changes coming, life never stays like this very long, these peaceful beautiful spots, where the seas are calm, the days are warm and the breeze is cool and sweet. That breeze pushes us forward, and soon the storms come,  majestic in their own right are the storms of life. You can't get anywhere with out going through those storms. Those are the places we prove ourselves, I am grateful for them. I understand how important they are, how some are great and crashing, some are long and forever cold, and some are so humid they seem the stifle the breath from your lungs.

So I will enjoy this time now, this sweet time, reading with my girls. Dreaming of the future with my husband. Playing peek-a-boo and making funny faces with my baby. In a clean warm house, with our good dog at my feet.

I am storing them up as precious strength, for days that will come later.

A reminder... for me, not you.

Kid Snacks- requesting inspiration....

I am not a proponent of snacking...
I feel like my kids eat what I make because I don't feed them whenever they ask during the day.
Consequently, they are hungry at meal times.
I'm not judging others, it's just what works for us.
But we do have to have something healthy, cheap and easy (order of importance), to eat at 10:30 and 2:30...
SOOO.... Internets...

Healthy, cheap, easy family snacks (remember, all 5 of us are home all day).

What do you/did you feed your kids?
What did your parents feed you?
What did your Grandmas feed your parents?

Thanks in advance.

I appologize now... if you don't laugh...

I am sorry for the vulgarity of the following post:
But I just find this interesting... (slash) STINKING HILARIOUS! I have so many questions I want to ask this man... The TOP being, How exactly do you collect?

oh.... but I still haven't told you what I'm talking about.

Now, I heard about this a little while ago from a friend, who said he found coyote urine pellets at Lowe's being sold as 'cat repellent' and he swore by them. (We have a number of obnoxious male felines  in our neighborhood.) At the time I laughed. I laughed hard, because well... it's funny... the whole idea of collecting coyote urine and making it into a "environmentally, child safe" product is hillarious... atleast it is to me.
Then last night Cori was talking to a friend on the phone, who was complaining about his neighbor's cats and I remembered the coyote urine, so I googled 'cat repellent coyote urine' and I found this:

follow the link for some more laughter.

Thank you to "The Pee Man", for eco friendly solutions to pest control... an a really good laugh...
but honestly... how do you get a bear to donate?
The thought occurs, maybe this is what the Grizzily man was really doing when he died...

The position has been filled...

Havah lost her first tooth last night! She "sucked it out", as she says...
You can see her adult tooth already grown in behind her fresh 'empty space'.

Judging the position of the already occupying adult tooth, I think she (lucky girl) has been blessed with my genes. Cori gave the hair, I gave the teeth... her inheritance from me is going to cost a lot more money than his, that's for sure... Maybe I can talk her into saving the 25 cent booty the fairy left, and apply it to orthodontia that should cover what... a rubber band? Every penny counts right?

A mother's bedtime poem.

Ten times the mother said,
Go to bed.
Go to bed.
Go to bed.
Go to bed.
Go. To. Bed.
Go. To. Bed!
Pleeease, go to bed. Rest your head.
Go to bed!
Go to BED!

Ah, finally... quiet.
Good night sweet angel children.

One who walks and wacks.... and wuvs...

See his awesome head wound?
That is what happens when you don't listen to your mother tell you a thousand times not to play on a chair....

**Note/Question: Does it still count as alliteration even though 'One' starts with an 'O'?

To My Mother, on her 48th Birthday

Dear Mom,
I have had a lovely day.
I made you an ugly purple rectangle cake, but then put hearts on it, because Lilly said she needed them. :) I figured I could indulge both your sensibilities. I promise they had purple frosting on them.
I opened your journal tonight. The one I have been reading most recently. I opened to the end of an entry tonight, January 7, 1996, you wrote, " I know our spiritual life is more important than anything. I choose to do whatever God needs done so that I can return to live with Him again. I wish I could force my children to be righteous and return with me. But I know they must choose for themselves. They will do best if I teach them to choose well by my example."

My heart is full of gratitude to you for that example. For teaching me how to choose joy. For teaching me to expect miracles. For showing me what was most important, by the way that you lived.

How did I get so lucky?
Happy Birthday.
I love you.

A little laugh, and a little personality

Look at my girls outfits.
They are direct expressions of their personalities.
And, curiously, their hair.
The only place where they swap their style is in socks.
but more about that another day.

My 'Green Car' Issues...

Guess what, the Honda Civic CNG just lost the 'Greenest car' award to this

Oh good job... that is the best we can do? Inorder to make the thing Greener we make it smaller? Awesome.. Havah can drive, Lilly can navigate. Gid can ride in the trunk... Cori and I will walk behind with a little car leash. (do they make those?)

HELLO PEOPLE!!! Grown ups have to fit in the thing.
And, this is a funny thing about a lot of grown ups... we've propagated. There are more than two of us.

Attention all carmakers- why don't you work on making one of these
that saves money and the earth... because even people who have 2 kids have to carry 4 kids in their car sometimes... like when their 2 kids have friends over...
just saying.

3 cool new tricks

Yesterday three cool things happened.
first, Gid walked.... this is by far the coolest thing. So we were getting ready to leave and he walked is the drive way. Then we were in the car and Havah, who has been counting a lot lately, but never higher tha  22, busts out and counted to 100. Now I started to pray that Lilly would fi d so e kind of cool trick she could do because I could tell she was feeling a little left out of the whole parental praise for a  awesome new trick loop, and rightly so.

Luckily when we got home, she was messing around and figured out how to blow up a baloon. Go Lils! All around. I love watching them learn how to do new things and give them nonest praise for good effort.

My baby walks.... yikes.

Birthday Cake

Julia Child, can I just say... WOW did you know what you were doing or what?

I saw a blog post somewhere about a chocolate mousse cake. It looked delicious. I wanted some.
So I decided for my birthday I was going to have chocolate mousse cake...
I found a great chocolate cake recipe. And then set out in search of a chocolate mousse recipe. Martha Stewarts had whipped cream in it, and was very beautiful, but didn't come close to looking as sticky and delicious as the pictures I found of Julia Child's chocolate mousse. The only switch I made was using Dark Chocolate instead of semi sweet. It was perfect.

Milk chocolate whipped cream on top of cupcakes filled with dark chocolate mousse?
  Yes Please!
Oh, you wanted some? Um... sorry... maybe for your birthday.

Dress ups- Gid Style

These are Gideon's dress ups.
He likes to wear his pirate patch and hang the bow tie over his shoulder while the girls twirl in their princess froo froo stuff...
He makes such a cute nerd pirate.

There was a Birthday!!
