Our first Easter, Cori and I were still at BYU. I was taking comparative Judaism and comparative Islam courses that semester and got tickets to BYU's annual Passover Dinner.
While over all we did not really enjoy our time, academically speaking, in Provo, Passover was a highlight. We were struck by the symbolism, so close to Easter, and how Christ at the last supper used the Passover meal to teach the Apostles about his purpose and mission.
Most especially we were struck by the Passover meals direct connection to the institution of the Sacrament (or communion for those of you who are not LDS). Throughout the Passover meal, you drink four cups of wine (or grape juice at house).
We eat the last of the bread, Matzoh.That fourth cup, Nitzrah which is also called Melchizedek or Righteousness, is the cup that Christ used as the sacrament.

As our Seder draws to an end, we once again take up our cups of wine. The Redemption is not yet complete. The fourth cup recalls us to our covenant with the Eternal One, to the tasks that still await us as a people called to holy service, to a great purpose for which the people of Israel live: the preservation and affirmation of hope.
(All drink the fourth cup of wine.)
Tonight we'll remember. The covenants that we have made with God, the miracles that God has worked in our lives & throughout the history of the world, and most importantly to remember that greatest miracle- the atonement and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
I think it's so great that you guys do this as a family-does the rest of the family do it with your or just you 4?
ReplyDeleteI think it's so important to be aware of aspects of other religions and how they really do directly pertain to us and what we do and believe. Good job!
This is the first year that we've done it just our little family. Havah was big enough to ask the questions and follow all the instructions with me. But Lilly... well not so much.
