Playing Solo

I hear a lot of people talk about how important it is to play with your kids.
For the record- I agree...
HOWEVER,

I also think it is equally important for kids to learn to play on their own.
This morning Havah is at preschool.
On Preschool days (mon, wed) Lilly and I have 'Lilly school'. For an hour we hang out and talk about letters, color, sing, read books, whatever she wants to do (sometimes we just shower). Then she does her thing and I do my thing. It's her chance to be an only child. To play with whatever toys she wants however she wants and no one (aka her sister) can tell her what she is supposed to say or if she is the princess, mom, dad, horse, cook, dog, angry snake... she can be whatever she wants.

This morning she is getting married (when she's not playing with the doll house with all the farm animals). She just came to tell me she made all the treats (blocks) herself, and that if I am very kind I can have some after she finishes putting on her hat.

I wish that I had hidden cameras in the playroom so that someday when my house is quiet (or loud with big kids instead of little kids) I could turn her on a listen to her little mind learning about the world around her while she "P-tens"

  1. Lilly is changing so much! They say home is a labratory.... sometimes you just need a little time to do your own exploring. That is great to give her the opportunity. She is such a smart and lovely little girl. Not that I am bias...

  2. I agree! I think it's important that kids learn to play solo, and be creative on their own. And it gives me a little time for myself. Everybody wins!
